Două zile în Galați (Two Days in Galați) 2021

Introduction (excerpt)

„Două zile în Galați” is my experience and personal vision of the city of Galați, Romania, as seen through photographic images. I spent, on 11 and 12 December 2021, the first and only two days in this city.

The city covers 246.4 km², which is twice the size of Chisinau (123 km²), but with half the population. Galați is an industrial city, which is due to its localization on the Danube River. It was the first time I visited a city of this type, which might have influenced my impressions of it, especially as I live in Iasi, which seems to be the opposite of Galați – a smaller city, but full of life and people.

Thus, the Galați in my book, as I saw it during these two rainy and cold days, is shrouded in a desolate atmosphere. I noticed countless abandoned buildings, large streets, but very few people. Looking at the communist blocks, I couldn’t help but imagine that half of the apartments were actually empty.

Disclaimer:

What I say and present in this book are only my subjective opinions and ideas and they should be treated as such. The book aims to document a subjective and artistic interpretation of a visit to the city of Galați, Romania.

The project is comprised of 31 digital photographs taken on the 11th and 12th of December 2021.
Below you can see a selection of spreads from the book.
The book is in a prototype state and there is only one copy ever printed.
